Chandler Park Jets Junior Basketball Club (Jets) was established in 1983. Elizabeth and Barry Harvey started the club in conjunction with Neville Groves and Brent Ferguson - all of whom coached basketball teams. Commencing with JUST 4 boys teams, the 'Jets' originally began as a way for boys playing with the Chandler Park Football Club to keep fit through the summer off-season.
As Boronia was in the North Melbourne recruiting zone, the colours of the Chandler Park Football Club were derived from North Melbourne (the Kangaroos). We have since added a splash of red, but our uniform still features the blue and white, reflecting the heritage of the club.
Two years after the club started, a girls team was added when the sisters of the boys playing grew tired of watching the boys have all the fun.
While Chandler Park Football Club amalgamated with Boronia Football Club a few years later, the Basketball club has continued to prosper.
At first, we trained teams on the outside courts at Boronia Primary School but quickly moved to the Boronia Youth hall on Dorset Rd (near where McDonalds is now). With more teams starting, we outgrew this venue and moved again to the newly built gym hall at Boronia Heights Secondary College (that was in 1988).
In 2005, we moved the majority of our training to Boronia Primary school (Boronia k12) to establish stronger links with primary aged children. In 2009 we moved to Fairhills High School where we continue training today.
We have been moderately successful on the courts over the past 29 years, however the club has always emphasized that enjoyment of the game is more important than winning.
